Father Figure held my interest as it dives into a subject that is often a taboo to speak about. I would gather that this could be THE tool for educators and school counselors to use as a guide for prevention. Mukherjee personal narrative clearly makes one notice the 'tell-tale' signs of victims. Upon finishing this book I was touched by Sumi's willingness and justice orientation with regard to the two central victims.
Father Figure is a compelling true narrative of a family friend who relentlessly committed himself to protecting two young girls from a convicted sexual predator who started dating the girls' mother. The author's determination not to give up in spite of overwhelming obstacles from the law enforcement community and other professionals is testament to the tenacity of this concerned and caring citizen. His obsessive compulsive disorder which he has learned to successfully manage seemed to catapult his resolve to pursue what he believed was in the best interests of the girls in spite of incredible odds. An added bonus to this riveting story is his concluding chapter with "essential advice" for child abuse victims, caregivers of children, ordinary citizens, family members and the professional child abuse community.
This is an awesome and must read book! Especially if you are a parent or soon to be parent. However, you don't have to be a parent just someone who wants to learn how child predators work and how the justice system does NOT always work in the favor of protecting the child. This is a true story and one that needed to be told. As a parent, grandparent, and a surviver of childhood sexual abuse I found this story very scary and wanted to just shake those that were supposed to serve and protect the children. They are the rights of the predator and not protecting the children. I can't say enough wonderful things about this book, you have to read it yourself because it is that good!!!!!

The author, Sumi Mukherjee, has used his experience to educate the reader on the proper steps to take to help those we love who may be in a similar situation. If you are a parent, caregiver, first responder, loving Neighbor, or even a silent survivor of abuse, I encourage you to read this book so you too can become an advocate for others whose voices haven't been heard.
This is a riveting true account of events told with great detail. This subject matter should be mandatory reading. With the influx of different cultures Child Sex Abuse is on the rise. This author has gone to great lengths to be a Father Figure Friend Detective and Guardian Angel. Page turner for sure. Will recommend for sure. Ty for writing this educational heart felt title.
Sumi Mukherjee is an amazing man. I met him at a "Children's Network Conference" as he was speaking on the topic of bullying. I have just finished reading his book, "Father Figure" Sumi's true story of trying to save 2 sisters from sexual abuse. Many people don't realize that predators reside as neighbors, uncles, boyfriends, grandfather's even fathers. This book is very spellbinding and keeps you on the edge of your seat as you don't know what is going to happen. It brings about awareness that your children can never be too protected and to keep them safe. Also, it makes you realize that as mothers, we need to keep our eyes open and inform our children that their body is sacred and no one should invade that. Teach them "to tell someone". I admire Sumi for writing this wonderful book and I look forward to his next one.
I can't believe who Sumi went through to make sure these girls were safe! I hope one day they will call him up and reunite their friendship. It was a very touching book and I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys nonfiction.
